Gaetano Pesce: the time of diversity

Running June 26 to October 5, a comprehensive retrospective at the MAXXI Museum of Rome will stage the work of Gaetano Pesce, the avant-garde Italian architect, designer and world-renowned artist.

Sustained by last year's success, the Milano Design Film Festival has tripled the seating capacity for its second edition in Milan on October 9-12 and planned an international tour, which sees it touching down on 19 June at Italian Cultural Institute in Paris, for three dates in July at MAXXI in Rome and 24 - 30 September at Beijing Design Week.

Highlights of the festival will include From the boundary of the usual, a short film on Piero Fornasetti’s world by Toni Meneguzzo, and REM, a feature-length documentary by Tomas Koolhaas about his father Rem.

Lanzavecchia + Wai at Secondome Gallery

Circus

Rock It!, a new exhibition at Rome's Secondome Gallery, is dedicated to design studio Lanzavecchia + Wai. Within the space of the gallery's new headquarters at Via Giovanni da Castel Bolognese, the designers present a selection of their most significant projects from recent years, and two new works commissioned by gallerist Claudia Pignatale, called Rocker n°1 & Rocker n°2.

Also making its debut is Circus, a collection of glass pieces that will become part of the catalogue editions of the gallery.

Elisa Strozyk has revealed her new wooden textile collection for 2013. Blurring the line between textiles and hard materials, new pieces Fading Red Wooden Textile and Limited Red Wooden Rug explore the relationship of colour and pattern with Strozyk’s signature geometric veneer technique.

The pieces are a collaboration with Hugo Boss for its Red Never Follows exhibition, shown at The Saatchi Gallery to mark the brand's 20th anniversary.

Founded by Nathan Philpott and Jemma Ooi, CUSTHOM Design specialises in high-quality wallpaper, textiles, stationery and ceramics. The studio’s work is all produced in Britain: ceramics are made in Stoke-on-Trent while wallpapers are embroidered in Leicester and hand-finished in London at the designers’ studio.

Running from 7th November until 22nd February at the Basia Embiricos Gallery, Pieces for the Body will display jewellery made by the designer in his spare time.

British jewellery designer Maya Selway turned to home accessories for this collection of vases, bowls, bottles and candlesticks, which resemble half-drawn sketches. Made from oxidised copper, they are carefully weighted at the base to support the seemingly unbalanced structure.

Catalina Estrada: fantastical nature

Based in Barcelona, Columbian illustrator Catalina Estrada offers a colourful vision of Latin-American folklore in her wallpapers and panels. With fauna and flora as her main source of inspiration, her work is inhabited by wild creatures and prismatic flowers, rich in colours and textures.
