New Designers, London’s annual showcase of almost 3,500 British design graduates, held its Part 2 Awards Evening earlier this month. There were eight winners across seven different categories, with prizes on offer including business start-up funds, legal advice and PR services.

This spring Vitra UK launched a national Panton Chair Competition. Architects and designers were asked to customize the iconic chair, and all 31 entries were auctioned on July 1, 2010. Proceedings of about £10,000 were donated to UK housing charity Shelter.

New Designers, the UK graduate showcase held annually in London, is one of the most reliable places to go to find new British design talent. At this year’s show, held last week, designer Rich Pearsons’ intelligent take on reusing materials was one of the highlights.

Levi's Printmaking Workshops

In an initiative that melds fashion, art and interiors, Levi's has launched a series of community-based pop-up spaces. The first of which, located in San Francisco's Mission district, will be home to a series of printmaking workshops that will teach attendees the craft of printmaking, from letterpress to screenprinting.

San Francisco, where Levi's is headquartered, will host 8 weeks of events, retail and educational seminars before the initiative is moved to New York City, where workshops will focus on photography.
