Inception by Luca Nichetto for Seletti
Tuesday, 3 June 2014
Luca Nichetto has designed a dish rack inspired by a scene from Christopher Nolan's sci-fi film Inception, in which the city of New York seems to fold onto itself as if it were made of rubber.
Designed for Italian brand Seletti, the product transforms Manhattan into coloured silicone, with skyscrapers repurposed to hold up plates or stationery items.
The project was presented during New York Design Week at Wanted Design on an installation of plinths that also bring to mind the skyline of the city.
"During a visit to Stefano Seletti in his office in Viadana, Mantua, a curious object resting on his desk caught my attention. It was a scale model of Manhattan peninsula, a gift from a friend. The object had no particular function yet, but it immediately gave me the idea to create something that played with the surreal proportions of the miniature metropolis," explains Luca Nichetto.
