Bokja at Rossana Orlandi for Milan Design Week 2014
Monday, 7 April 2014
Beirut-based design and craft studio Bojka are launching their new Good Things Collection at Spazio Rossana Orlandi this week. For the first time, Bokja is changing direction to present a ready-to-manufacture line of furniture and accessories.
Famous for their one-off pieces of artistic furniture, Bokja have made a name for themselves with exquisite chairs and sofas reupholstered in vibrant ancient fabrics, arranged in a distinctive patchwork of chaotic patterns and colours.
The Good Things Collection still draws inspiration from their love of fabrics that come with a story and history attached, but this time no vintage fabrics have been used. Instead, all the textiles for the new collection are produced at the Bokja atelier, located in Beirut’s Saifi district, and are ready to manufacture at any scale.
Made with a combination of machine and hand embroidery, digital printing, fabric manipulation and hand painting, and with fabrics including jute, muslin, linen, silk and raw cotton, these pieces give a new twist to the most basic materials.
“This new collection has become part of our survival kit. We live in a country immersed in conflict and this year has been difficult like no other - instead we chose to wear rose-coloured glasses and enjoy the view. We are taking time to savour the good moments, we want to share them and to bring happiness to as many people as possible” explain founders Hoda Baroudi and Maria Hibri.
