Studio delle Alpi at kidsroomZoom!, Kind + Jugend 2013

Cologne-based fair Kind + Jugend included a special design area this year to reflect the increasing importance of individuality and lifestyle trends within contemporary children's design. kidsroomZoom! was curated by Paulo Noé from Milan-based design project Unduetrestella, and featured 40 independent brands from Europe as well as newcomers from countries such as Argentina and Poland.

Handicraft and sustainability run through the contemporary designs on show, with an emphasis on local production.

Studio delle Alpi presented its range of simple toys and furniture made from plywood. The colourful and playful patterns are printed using silk screen techniques.

BzBx Copenhagen at kidroomZoom!, Kind + Jugend 2013
The Towerchair from Danish brand BzBx Copenhagen is an example of understated but eye-catching design. Its minimal frame design is matched with a bold, geometric design in a palette of grey, black and retro pale pink.

Ugly Toys at kidsroomZoom!, Kind + Jugend 2013
Another highlight is Ugly Toys' range of quirky characters, which are handmade and made from recycled materials.

Kind + Jugend runs until September 22; a full report will be available for Homebuildlife subscribers next week.
