Colourful ceramics by Jonathan Adler at NY NOW 2013 |
NY NOW, the show formerly know as New York International Gift Show, opened this week at the Javits Center in New York City. 3000 exhibitors displayed their wares in a newly laid out show that eliminated off-site venues and concentrated the show under one roof. The show's re-organisation reflects the way retailers are shopping and sourcing, while reinforcing the depth and breadth of the exhibitors.

Eclectic flora and fauna by Design Legacy at NY NOW 2013 |
NY Now is typically not known as a trend-setting show but rather a confirmation of what we have been seeing in Europe with a distinctively American point of view.

Opiary tabletop garden sculpture at NY Now 2013 |
Metallics are showing strongly as support to neutral palettes, while matte finishes in ceramics and bright primary colours also had broad exposure across categories and manufactures.
|
Charming illustrations by K Studio at NY NOW 2013 |
Also of note was the use of illustration on product. Shown and rendered mostly in the naive form, the humour and charm added value to the product.
|
Smoky acrylic by Alexandra Von Furstenberg at NY NOW 2013 |
Four overall areas ensure that the show spans the product spectrum: NY Now New spotlights newcomers to the design market; NY Lifestyle presents a broad spectrum of gift, personal accessories, children's and stationery; NY Now Home shows a collection of textile, decorative accessories and and tabletop; and NY Now Handmade features work from almost 500 designer makers.
Our full show report will be available soon on Homebuildlife.
