To detect and analyse design trends, the ADI (Italian Association for Industrial Design) established the Permanent Design Observatory, an interdisciplinary group of more than 120 experts living all over the country who together publish the ADI Design Index - an annual selection of Italy's best new products.

111 products have been chosen as representing the best from Italian designers and producers for 2012, together with 17 projects developed by students from the top Italian design schools and academies. As before, this edition is not limited to the printed page, but can also be found online at the dedicated Index site.
