RO chair by Jaime Hayon x Fritz Hansen

Spanish designer Jaime Hayon has designed a new easy chair for Republic of Fritz Hansen, unveiled this week in Milan. His brief was to create a seat to encourage reflection and comfort, where one can find room for one's inner space and take a break from the bustle of everyday life. Its name, Ro, means tranquility in Danish, capturing the Nordic approach to design in just two letters.

Available in nine colours including three neutral options, three brights and three soft shades, the chairs were presented in Milan in two different textures, one for the seat shell and one for the cushions.

To represent the urban tranquillity at the core of this project, each one was associated with a city, with London illustrated by black leather, New York by grey velvet and Milan by green silk. Through colour and material, Jaime Hayon thus managed to sum up the essence of nine cities in a single design.
