Austerity by Lanzavecchia + Wai: edible furniture for times of crisis

Monday, 29 April 2013

How can furniture react to times of crisis? Through a series of four conceptual objects, designers Lanzavecchia + Wai propose using sugar and chocolate to create food reserves that at the same time provide the finishing surfaces for furniture.

Responding to the idea that decorative elements serve no function in times of crisis, the objects are able to be consumed when needed, supplying the person eating them with vital nutrients.

Lanzavecchia + Wai exhibited the project in Milan as part of the Foodmade exhibition by Padiglione Italia, which was on show in Ventura Lambrate. Subscribers can browse our full image gallery from the exhibition here, and can also read our interview with Lanzavacchia + Wai here.
