BarberOsgerby: Maison & Objet Designers of the Year 2013

Monday, 21 January 2013

Following their unmissable success in 2012 - designing the London Olympic Torch as well as a new £2 coin - British designers BarberOsgerby are Maison & Objet's Designers of the Year for 2013.

Prevously held by Tokujin Yoshioka, the accolade comes with a special exhibition at the tradefair, where the studio's latest and best-known products are showcased in a tableau that emphasises the characteristics common to each design.

Known for its rigorous research, function-led innovation and sensitive use of colour, the studio won the Design Museum's 2012 Design of the Year award for its Olympic Torch. They also reimagined childrens' classroom chairs with Vitra's TipTon chair; read our interview with them about it here. Their most recent project is a portable light for Louis Vuitton's Objets Nomades collection.

Maison et Objet's January edition closes its doors tomorrow; subscribers will be able to access our analysis from the show over the next few days.
