Contemporary Perspectives in Middle Eastern Crafts

Thursday, 29 March 2012

Beirut-based Carwan Gallery has commissioned international designers and local Middle Eastern artisans to co-create a collection of limited-edition objects, which will be exhibited at off-fair district Ventura Lambrate during Milan's Salone.

The project has paired traditional specialist artisans, practising time-honoured Middle Eastern techniques, with international designers including Mischer'Traxler, Lindsey Adelman and Philippe Malouin - casting a spotlight on the relationship between heritage, craftsmanship, and modern creativity.

Established in 2010 by architects Pascale Wakim and Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte, Carwan Gallery focuses on internationalising design in the Middle East. They say the new collection will "highlight the richness of Middle Eastern craftsmanship as well as its capabilities for contemporary design."

Contemporary Perspectives in Middle Eastern Crafts will run 16 - 22 April 2012.
