The mediums for producing art are never ending, but sometimes it is with everyday mediums that the most impressive outcomes are produced. Artist and illustrator Baku Maeda has taken ribbons, synonymous with gift wrapping and celebration, as the basis for his unique figures.
Detached from their regular wrapping usage, Maeda twists and and ties ribbon in an experimental way to produce 3D forms. His obsession with animals is clear in his creations, with ribbon art depicting a seal playing with a ball, a dressage horse and a gruff terrior to name just a few.
The sculptures are all one-of-a-kind, with Baku and his team producing
by hand to fit client's desires for complexity and usage. Ribbonesia
creations can be transformed in to brooches, used for elaborate gift
packaging or can be boxed up and given as a token gift or favour.
