Bicycle Stove by Florike Martens |
Opening to the public today at
Selfridges in London, EverydayDutch is a month-long collaboration between the department store, the Dutch embassy and
Design Cooperation Brainport in Eindhoven. Curator
Jane Withers has selected pieces by a variety of Dutch creatives, from established designers such as Hella Jongerius and Scholten & Baijings to recent graduates from
Design Academy Eindhoven, to be displayed and sold from The Wonder Room, a concept space at Selfridges.

Mouse Mates by Roel de Boer |
Described as "part design installation, part temporary shop", the exhibition showcases designs for everyday life, and is bookended by
Roel de Boer's lively Mouse Mates playpen, which encourages us to see rodent pests in a new light, and
Eveline Visser's Bird City, a wall-mounted labyrinth of bird houses which create "an avian neighbourhood".

One of the most innovative designs on show is
Florike Martens' Bicycle Stove (top image), which can be attached to the back of a bicycle and pedalled into the countryside for impromptu picnics and gatherings. The folding design features two gas hobs, a work surface and a barbecue facility.
