Jean Cocteau by Roche Bobois

Wednesday, 17 July 2013

The Jean Cocteau Committee, in charge of defending and promoting the works of the multi-disciplinary French artist, has partnered with Roche Bobois to mark the fiftieth anniversary of his death with a tribute collection of decorative objects.

The starting point of the project was to re-issue Cocteau's ceramics, which he considered as artworks in their own right, rather than a form of applied art. The result is a range of fine quality accessories whose motifs and patterns blend art with decoration.

Referencing the pictorial designs within textiles was a natural progression, as the artist's sketches and drawings lend themselves well to rugs and cushions. Using print, embroidery and a mix of other techniques, the new collection captures the distinctive spontaneity of Cocteau's original drawings and manuscripts.
