No Place Like Home Shoes by Dominic Wilcox

Monday 17 September 2012

British designer Dominic Wilcox has created a pair of shoes with embedded GPS, which uses a circle of LEDs in the left toe to show the direction of travel and a line of LEDs in the right toe to indicate how much of the journey is completed.

Users click their heels together to activate the pre-programmed GPS - a feature inspired by Dorothy's shoes in the Wizard of Oz. Wilcox worked with Stamp Shoes in Northamptonshire to make the shoes, and with technology expert Becky Stewart to implement the technology.

The No Place Like Home shoes were commisioned as part of the Global Footprint Project, and are currently on display at Wilcox's solo show at KK Outlet, east London, as part of London Design Festival 2012.
