Gravhøj by Thea Brøgger
Monday, 6 August 2012
Graduate designer Thea Brøgger has designed a kitchen spoon for everyday use that also functions as storage for treasured items. The project reinterprets the Danish concept "gravhøj", or "burial mound", offering an enduring memory of loved items and experiences using a discreet method.
Brøgger's spoon is provided to the user in two parts; after selecting a small keepsake and inserting it into the central "mound" of the spoon, they can then glue it together to keep the item safe in perpetuity.
This project is an example of Commemorate, a key theme to emerge from this year's graduate shows. Subscribers can read more about this theme, and the others we have highlighted, in our seasonal round-up of graduate shows.
