New York's Park Avenue Armory has been transformed into an ethereal land of aeronautical equipment and space-age sculptures in sculptor
Tom Sachs' Space Program exhibition.

Sachs has used the Armory's
55,000sq ft drill hall to house his four-week mission to Mars, which features spacecraft, a Mission Control, exploratory vehicles, launch platforms and a Martian landscape.

Along with 13 studio assistants, the artist also carefully built equipment that would be required for actual space survival, colonisation and scientific exploration, ranging from astronaut entertainment and food delivery to human waste disposal.

Rebecca Robertson, president and executive producer of the Park Avenue Armory, said of the show: "Tom Sachs has produced elaborate instruments of space travel out of found materials, and creates a dynamic interplay among astronauts. He is simulating all aspects of the iconic experience."
