Softwall by Molo at Milan Design Week 2012
Understanding the possibilities a material like paper has when removed from its primary purposes provides a realm of creative opportunities for designers. Canadian design company Molo took hold of this at Milan Design Week, creating an installation for MOST made entirely from paper.

The multisensory installation, called Paper Music, embodies the sounds, feel and appearance of paper. Working with sound artist Ethan Rose, Molo recorded a range of musical sounds produced from tearing, ripping and crunching paper to be played at the installation. The set, dominated by towering fourteen metre long paper walls, acts like speakers for the sounds, passing the vibrations along the passageway.

Visitors are encouraged to interact with the paper too, by running their hands along the jagged wall edges. The change of natural light, coupled with integrated LED lighting, causes the yellow walls of the installation to change from a bright canary yellow to a burning amber as the sun goes down.
