One of the most colourful exhibitions seen by WGSN-homebuildlife today at Milan Design Week was Colour One by Scholten & Baijings for MINI. By dissecting the basic MINI One model, the Dutch designers demonstrate how their approach to design and colour can be translated into automotive design.
The exhibition shows the layers of the car stripped like an onion and then reconstructed according to Scholten & Baijings' vision. Fluorescent colours are applied in an ombre effect to car doors, storage pockets transform into stylish tote and clutch bags, and surfaces and textiles are perforated and quilted with fluorescent stitch details.
The exhibition explores the realm between reality and imagination, with the exhibited design concepts intended as a source of inspiration for MINI's experienced design teams.
The exhibition is accompanied by the designers' body of research including design drawings, fabric and colour samples.
The exhibition runs 16 - 28 April 2012 at Università degli Studi di Milano - Via Festa del Perdono 7, Milan.
