Studio B, a Brazilian design studio founded by brother and sister Eduardo and Cristiana Bortolai, has launched a furniture collection for M Design at ABIMAD fair in Sao Paulo.

The playful yet functional approach of the duo towards furniture design is clearly represented with sumptuous curves, generous proportions, extreme comfort, and the use of tactile materials like velvet and wood. The collection comprises two armchairs, called Pavao and Smooth, and a modular sofa, Mont Block.

WGSN-homebuildlife spoke to Eduardo Bortolai about the inspiration for the Smooth chair: "I wanted to create a piece inspired by good memories, that would instantly remind us of 'grandma's home', but at the same time I didn't want it be yet another retro chair," he explained. "That way, the references are subtle but work perfectly within a modern environment - like the buttons in the cushions made from aluminum and the discreet shape of the wooden structure." This is the first collaboration between the design studio and the manufacturer.
