Compasso d’Oro ADI 2011: the award for best Italian design

This year 19 projects were awarded with the Compasso d'Oro. Considered the Nobel Prize for design, the Compasso d'Oro is the first and the most important industrial design award. Founded in 1954 from an idea of Gio Ponti, since 1964 it is managed by ADI, the Italian Association for Industrial Design.

Every 3 years, an international jury of critics, historians, designers and journalists select the projects to be awarded among the items signaled in the yearbooks of the previous 3 years.

For this XXII edition, 19 designers and producers have been chosen to represent the excellence in design, in different categories: design for living, design for the environment, visual design, exhibition design, research enterprise but also theoretical, historical and critical research.

On July 12, the jury of experts headed by Arturo Dell'Acqua Bellavitis (Italy) and composed by Chantal Hamaide Clavier (France), Umberto Croppi (Italy), Guto Indio Da Costa (Brazil), Pierre Keller (Switzerland), Cecilie Manz (Denmark), Clive Roux (USA), Shiling Zheng (China), has awarded the 19 winners, and also several honorable mentions, special prizes and career awards. The official ceremony was held at the MACRO (museum of contemporary art) in Rome.

Until September 25, the 400 objects selected for the Compasso d'Oro 2011 are exposed at MACRO Testaccio La Pelanda, while at Palazzo delle Esposizioni, in the historical section of the exhibition, you can see all the 300 projects awarded from 1954 until today. A double exhibition entitled Uniqueness of Italy. Made in Italy and national identity: an unmissable opportunity to understand the Italian way of design.
