London-based designer Sebastian Bergne will construct a life-size greenhouse, made entirely out of LEGO pieces, for the 2011 London Design Festival. The piece will be on display in Covent Garden, an area historically known for its garden trade, and will be a fully functioning greenhouse, housing a selection of real plants which will be lit up at night.
Bergne says of the project: “We have ended up with an interesting juxtaposition of a natural environment growing in an almost digital, mass-produced LEGO structure, and it makes you look at LEGO in a new way.”
Bergne's LEGO Greenhouse will be on display 15 - 25 September 2011 at North Piazza, Covent Garden, London WC2E 8RF. To read all of our LDF 2011 previews so far, visit our special category.
