The Sidebar Project by Teroforma and urbancase

Wednesday 15 June 2011

Presented at the ICFF in New York last month, The Sidebar Project was a collaboration between two American design studios: modernist tableware manufacturers Teroforma and furniture brand urbancase. The studios, who are based on opposite coasts of the US, share a passion for well-crafted furniture and this cocktail bar and collection of barware is the first in a planned series of collaborations called Crafted.

Following WGSN's spring/summer 2012 macro trend Cinematic, this project evokes the nostalgic glamour of mid-century cocktail culture and marks the return of the home bar.

Available in both walnut and white corian, the side bar was designed by Darin Montgomery and Trey Jones for urbancase. It features a laterally sliding panel revealing adjacent compartments for liquor and glass storage, a drop-front drawer houses bar tools, and a pull-out drawer below to store peripherals such as napkins, stirrers, olive picks, cocktail recipes.

The tumblers and cocktail glasses were designed for Teroforma by Roman Vrtiska in the Czech Republic. Made from mouthblown non-lead crystal, each glass is sized to fit precisely into the Sidebar’s shelved storage area. WGSN loves the incised diamond motif detail on the bar interior that is also featured on the surface of the crystal.
