Room Service, San Francisco

San Francisco’s independent interiors boutiques are clustered around Hayes Valley and the Mission, and stock a wide variety of printed and patterned homewares, modern furniture and gift accessories. Here, we profile Room Service, a colourful and decidedly retro-themed interiors store run by a husband-and-wife team.

Room Service, San Francisco

Owners John and Taryn Bernard offer a carefully curated selection of homewares in strong colour themes that hark back to bygone eras of 20th century interior styling. Pieces from the '60s and '70s - including fibreglass ball chairs, Lucite pieces and bubble chairs - complement bold Hollywood filmstar canvases and groupings of ceramic vases in eye-popping bubblegum colourways. Printed letterform and slogan cushions, large-scale retro prints and poodle ceramics create a playful, light-hearted atmosphere in this store.
