HBL Designer Profile: Dieter Volkers

Wednesday, 10 November 2010

The work of young Dutch designer Dieter Volkers caught WGSN's eye at Dutch Design Week this year. Recently graduated from the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem, Dieter presented his work at the exhibition Instruments, Tools and Objects along with fellow students Juliette Warmenhoven and Klaas Kuiken. He describes his designs as "Functional objects, powerful in their aesthetics".

His Ball Clamp light is made up of four simple components; an iron clamp, a bulb, a flex and a plastic diffuser that he makes in his self built rotational moulding machine. The result is a striking lamp that looks deceptively like a soft silicone ball. Ball Clamp can be attached to shelving or a table making it the perfect lamp for a studio or workspace.
